Job title: Procurement Planner
Job summary
The Production Planner is responsible for ensuring material availability and timely release of manufacturing orders to meet shipment schedules while minimizing inventory and aging. This role runs and analyzes MRP, executes weekly production releases, performs daily shortage analysis and follow‑up, and continuously monitors open orders to identify and close excess or aged requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Daily shortage analysis & fulfillment
- Run daily material shortage reports and identify critical shortages impacting production and shipments.
- Coordinate with procurement, suppliers, receiving, and production to expedite, re-route, or substitute materials.
- Track fulfillment actions and close shortage items in the ERP.
- MRP execution, review & analysis
- Execute/run the weekly MRP cycle in the ERP system and validate results for accuracy.
- Analyze MRP exception messages and reports to identify root causes and recommended corrective actions (demand, lead times, scrap, BOM issues).
- Document decisions and follow up on corrective actions.
- Release weekly manufacturing orders (MO)
- Create and release weekly MOs based on MRP outputs and shipment priorities.
- Ensure released MOs have correct routings, bills of material, quantities, and due dates.
- Coordinate with shop floor and production schedulers to confirm capacity and readiness.
- Shipment‑based planning
- Align MO releases and production schedules to shipment dates and customer priorities.
- Maintain shipment-driven priorities when resolving conflicts between orders.
- Open orders management, cancellation & aging control
- Review open POs and MOs weekly to identify excess, duplicate, or obsolete open orders.
- Recommend and process cancellations or closures for excess open orders and drive reduction of aged items.
- Maintain aging dashboards and escalate persistent issues.
- Past‑due orders reschedule & updates
- Identify past‑due MOs/POs, reschedule them as appropriate, and update stakeholders and ERP statuses.
- Work with suppliers and production to create recovery plans for overdue items.
- Weekly open MO review & material supply confirmation
- Lead weekly open MO review meeting with production, procurement, quality and warehouse to confirm material supply and readiness.
- Track material confirmations, outstanding reservations, and action items until closure.
- Maintain a rolling view of open MOs and their material status.
- Reporting & continuous improvement
- Maintain and distribute planning KPIs and status reports (on‑time delivery, stockouts, days of inventory, aged open orders).
- Drive continuous improvement projects to reduce lead times, improve MRP accuracy and lower inventory carrying cost.
- Maintain accurate master data (lead times, BOMs, safety stock) related to planning inputs.
Required qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Industrial Engineering, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 1+ years’ experience in production planning, materials planning, or inventory control in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficient with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or similar) and advanced Excel skills.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred
- Familiarity with planning tools (APS), demand planning, and advanced reporting (Power BI, Tableau).

- Number/value of aged open orders (>X days) and reduction rate.
- MRP exception clearance rate.
Tools & systems
- ERP/MRP (specify your system: SAP S/4HANA, Oracle, NetSuite, etc.)
- Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, macros desirable)
- Reporting/BI tools (Power BI / Tableau) — preferred
Working conditions
- May require occasional overtime to support shipment demands or MRP cycles.
