Senior Backend / Full-Stack Engineer (Java & Spring AI)
Location: Monterrey, NL, Mexico (no candidates outside of monterrey metropolitan area)
Work Model: High-Flex Hybrid (2-4 days per month in-person for team coordination; the rest is remote)

About the Role
We are seeking a seasoned Senior Backend or Full-Stack Engineer to join our consulting team. In this role, you will architect, build, and deploy enterprise-grade applications, driving the integration of cutting-edge artificial intelligence into traditional enterprise systems. You will work closely with international clients, requiring excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
This role is designed for professionals who value autonomy. You will work remotely almost entirely, joining the team in Monterrey just 2 to 4 days a month for strategic coordination and alignment sessions.
Key Responsibilities
- Backend Architecture: Design, build, and maintain high-performance, scalable backend services using Java (17+) and the Spring Framework (Spring Boot 3.x).
- AI Integration: Leverage Spring AI to implement production-level LLM integrations, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines, and vector database interactions.
- Data Management: Architect schemas, write optimized queries, and manage data persistence using relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL solutions.
- Full-Stack Expansion: Support or build lightweight frontend components using modern JavaScript frameworks (e.g., Angular, React) to tie into backend APIs.
- Production Support & Reliability: Participate in troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and performance tuning for critical live systems. Handle incident response and application monitoring gracefully.
- Client Collaboration: Directly engage with stakeholders to translate business requirements into clean, well-tested code in an Agile environment.
Required Technical Skills & Experience
- Experience: 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a heavy focus on backend systems.
- Core Tech: Deep mastery of Java and core Spring frameworks (Spring Boot, Spring Data JPA, Spring Security).
- AI Tooling: Proven production-level use of Spring AI. Candidates must be able to demonstrate how they have deployed AI-driven features to live environments.
- Databases: Advanced knowledge of SQL databases, indexing, and performance optimization. Experience with Vector Databases (e.g., pgvector, Pinecone, Milvus) is highly valued.
- Languages: Fluent English is mandatory for regular communication with nearshore clients.
Bonus Points
- Experience with production support workflows, logging/observability stacks (e.g., Splunk, Datadog, ELK), and resolving critical production bugs under time constraints.
