Job Summary:
Flex intends to spin off its Cloud and Power Infrastructure segment into a new, independent publicly traded company, which we’re calling SpinCo, until the name is unveiled. The spin is planned for Q1 2027. If the intended spin occurs, this role will support SpinCo, which will focus on critical digital infrastructure, delivering end-to-end power and thermal management solutions for AI data centers and other mission-critical applications.
The “ Maintenance Automation Engineer ” will be based in Guadalajara, North Campus will be responsible to work with automated lines, giving maintenance and collaborating on automation-sustaining activities.
What a Typical Day Looks Like
- Engage with customers and internal stakeholders to understand project requirements and drive technical solutions.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve equipment efficiency, reliability, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
- Establish and maintain equipment monitoring, data collection, quality assurance, and process control systems.
- Manage and support automation systems, including safety systems, motor controls, drives, industrial networks, PLCs, and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs).
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, quality, uptime, and cost reduction.
Support new equipment introduction, validation, qualification, and process deployment activities.

Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot equipment and manufacturing systems to identify root causes and isolate failure mechanisms.
- Implement effective and cost-efficient corrective actions to restore equipment performance.
- Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities according to established schedules.
- Execute equipment calibration, verification, qualification, and requalification activities.
- Support the installation, startup, commissioning, relocation, and decommissioning of manufacturing and test equipment.
- Develop, maintain, and improve maintenance procedures, troubleshooting guides, and technical documentation.
- Investigate equipment failures and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Maintain accurate equipment logs, maintenance records, and downtime reports.
- Provide daily updates regarding equipment performance, availability, and reliability metrics.
- Set up, validate, and maintain laboratory and production test equipment used for product verification and calibration.
- Inspect, repair, replace, align, and calibrate mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and electronic components.
- Support software and hardware maintenance activities for automated manufacturing and test systems.
- Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and production-impacting issues.
- Analyze and improve equipment KPIs, including MTTR, MTBF, OEE, and downtime trends.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Manufacturing, Process Engineering, Quality, Test Engineering, and Production.
- Drive automation projects focused on process optimization, error-proofing (Poka-Yoke), and digitalization.
- Support vision systems, robotics, data acquisition systems, and industrial communication networks.
May require travel to other Flex sites, suppliers, or equipment manufacturers.

The experience we're looking to add to our team :
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Automation Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.
- Consistent experience in automation, equipment engineering, maintenance, test, or manufacturing engineering.
- Strong experience in high-volume manufacturing environments, preferably within the automotive, electronics, or battery industries.
- Hands-on experience with PLC programming and troubleshooting (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Omron, Mitsubishi, or equivalent). Experience with industrial robotics (Fanuc, ABB, Yaskawa, KUKA, Universal Robots, etc.).
- Experience with HMI development, SCADA systems, and industrial communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, and OPC-UA.
- Knowledge of preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance methodologies.
- Experience troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automation systems.
- Strong understanding of root cause analysis methodologies such as 5 Why, Fishbone, and FMEA would be a plus.
- Advanced English communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Experience with machine vision systems such as Cognex or Keyence.
- Knowledge of test systems, functional testers, ICT, FCT, battery testing systems, or end-of-line test equipment.
- Knowledge of statistical analysis tools and process capability methodologies (SPC, GR&R, Cp/Cpk).
- Familiarity with TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) and reliability engineering concepts.
- Strong understanding of safety standards, risk assessments, machine safeguarding, and lockout/tagout (LOTO) requirements.
- Knowledge of battery manufacturing processes, laser welding systems, and automated assembly equipment is highly desirable.
- Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.
