Associate as HVAC Mechanical Engineer
SSOE is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and coordination of HVAC and industrial utility systems for manufacturing and industrial facilities, including automotive, pharmaceutical, data centers, and advanced manufacturing projects. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership throughout all project phases, from concept development through construction administration, while ensuring compliance with industry standards, client requirements, and quality expectations
Our Mechanical Engineer will employ advanced modeling techniques to develop, coordinate, and validate 3D HVAC systems layouts, ensuring seamless integration of mechanical components with multidiscipline coordination.

Responsibilities
Working closely with project managers, discipline leads, and client representatives, you will lead HVAC design reviews and rigorous quality gate checkpoints that support risk mitigation and compliance with safety protocols throughout all design phases. Your responsibilities span schematic design, detailed design development, construction documentation, project planning, staff coordination, project activities coordination, and construction administration, maintaining stringent change control processes and proactively identifying constructability issues in collaboration with contractors and vendors.

Perform detailed heating and cooling load calculations and psychrometric analyses using recognized methodologies to size equipment accurately and optimize energy consumption, adhering to sustainable design principles and energy codes including ASHRAE 90.1.

Develop and maintain detailed BIM models in Revit, producing HVAC layouts, ductwork, piping, and equipment placement and interfacing with MEP and structural disciplines to resolve clashes and coordination issues using clash detection tools.

Collaborate directly with multi-disciplinary design teams, including electrical, plumbing, controls, process, industrial, fire protection and structural engineers, to deliver integrated solutions that align with project schedules, budgets, and client requirements.

Provide design input and technical support during all phases—from concept and schematic design, through design development and construction documents, to construction administration and startup phases.

Lead or participate in internal design reviews and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) processes, ensuring design integrity, code compliance, and risk mitigation for HVAC systems across multi-location office teams and remote collaborators.

Supervise, coordinate, and direct the work effort of designers on the same project with some responsibility for checking his/her portion of the completed drawings.

Mentor junior engineers and coordinate cross-office collaboration to uphold the firm’s culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.

Utilize industry-standard HVAC analysis software and spreadsheet calculation tools, supplementing BIM data for robustness in design validation

Stay current with changes to relevant codes, standards, and emerging best practices in HVAC design, preparing engineers design packages accordingly.

Support proposals, cost estimates, client presentations, and construction administration activities.

What You Will Bring:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related.
-
10+ years of experience in HVAC and industrial mechanical systems design.
-
Professional Title and Cedula Professional are a mandatory requirement.
-
Thorough knowledge of International Mechanical Code (IMC), NFPA standards for fire and life safety (e.g., NFPA 90A), National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements related to HVAC electrical systems, and ASHRAE standards including 90.1 (energy efficiency) and 62.1 (ventilation).

Key previous software experience: Elite Software, Trace 700, HAP, Thermal Loads, heat recovery, water pumps, hot water boilers, steam boilers, heat exchangers, Compressed air systems, air compressors, piping, storage tanks, filters, clean rooms.

Prior experience in Revit BIM and AutoCAD software’s preferred for HVAC/Mechanical systems modeling, with demonstrated ability to produce and manage 3D design documentation in multi-discipline environments.

Proven experience performing load calculations and system selections validated via recognized engineering calculation methods including psychrometric charts and energy modeling correlations.

Advanced English level. Demonstrated ability to communicate fluently and professionally in English, both written and verbal, including technical correspondence, client interactions, and team collaboration.
