Cost Accountant
This role is not a traditional transactional month end reporting role. Its focus is on analytics on key business drivers. This role immerses itself in collaboration with the front-line operations team to conduct extensive analysis to help ensure the day-to-day transactions and management of cost drivers, inventory, work orders, BOMs and operational costs are running smoothly. You are the internal control and key oversight to ensuring data integrity in all manufacturing transactions so that KPI reporting is accurate and effective control on profitability is attained. Becoming an expert in interpreting and presenting the data behind the KPI’s will be a large requirement in this role. This role will also play an integral part in projects related to manufacturing excellence and cost savings.

Responsibilities:
· Identify and assess deficiencies in the Operational and Production processes with the Operations Controller.
· Assist in implementation of internal controls over manufacturing operations, and corresponding impact over financial reporting.
· Review run time – Assist in the setting/reviewing of standard labour time and costs in work orders.
· Review standard and actual costs for inaccuracies.
· Perform weekly labor and production variance analyses.
· Variance Analyses for Key Cost Drivers causing issues
· Work with the operations and Engineering teams to develop and maintain product standard and actual costing.
· Prepare overhead load study and allocation by resource and major operation (Fabrication, Welding, Assembly, Paint) and/or functional group (Restraints, Controls, Docks, EDs)
· Ensure all costs are captured for jobs built in-house as well as outsourced products
· Work with the Operations Controller in the implementation of Inventory Controls to optimize system quantity and valuation
· Collaborate with work order operations to review bills of materials for corrected parts used, as well as assisting in the prevention of negative inventories in sub ledger reports
· Perform multiple costing analyses to assist in decision making
· Assist in costing requests for pricing, Engineering quotes and Special Pricing Request
· Responsible for maintaining pricing for all Blue Giant business units
· Accurate and timely Profitability Reporting for all entities
· Month End reporting including prepare monthly journal entries for costing and inventory valuation
· Generate PPV reports, analyze and present findings
· Assisting the Finance Team with additional Financial Reporting duties, as assigned
· Assist in projects related to cost reduction so products are profitable.
· Prepare regular reporting to review the operations and finance team variance between actual and standard cost.
· Assist in coordinating physical inventory counts and cycle counts
· Investigate cycle count variances, present results, and resolve issues
· Analyze costs of raw materials and other supplies and create cost-benefit analyses for changing scenarios
· Classify costs accurately according to ASPE
· All fixed assets include maintaining fixed asset and lease subledger and preparing continuity schedules for external reporting purposes
· Record fixed asset acquisitions and disposals in the accounting system.
· Track Capital Expenditure projects.
· Reconcile the balance in the fixed asset subsidiary ledger to the summary-level account in the general ledger.
· Calculate depreciation for all fixed assets.
· Review and update the detailed schedule of fixed assets and accumulated depreciation.
· Conduct periodic impairment reviews for intangible and fixed assets.
· Assist during external audits by responding to queries from auditors and providing documentation as requested.
· Other Duties as assigned.
Required Skills:
· Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Engineering
· 5+ Years of progressive experience
· Experience in a manufacturing environment is a must
· Strong manufacturing costing background is a must
· Champions integrity and trust, coupled with strong work-ethics and ability to multi-task while juggling multiple priorities simultaneously.
· Displays self-awareness and ability to deal with ambiguity.
· Good communication, problem solving, critical thinking, and organization skills with ability to execute
· Good understanding of accounting standards and policies
· Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively
