Fives Automatización México is looking for a Mechanical Design Coordinator to Saltillo, Coahuila Office, with a strong technical background and strategic leadership skills to lead the development of automated industrial machinery.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for leading the mechanical design engineering team, managing engineering resources, reviewing and approving complex technical calculations and designs, and ensuring the successful delivery of projects under Make-to-Order (MTO) and Engineer-to-Order (ETO) manufacturing environments.
This position requires strong technical expertise in mechanical design, structural analysis, motion systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, and power transmission, as well as the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and collaborate effectively with Operations.
Key ResponsibilitiesEngineering Leadership
- Lead, evaluate, and coordinate the activities of the mechanical design engineering team.
- Assign and balance workloads according to project priorities, deadlines, and available resources.
- Monitor engineering performance and ensure compliance with project schedules and quality standards.
- Provide technical guidance and support to engineers throughout the design and development process.
MTO / ETO Project Management
- Manage the mechanical design lifecycle for both Make-to-Order (MTO) and Engineer-to-Order (ETO) projects.
- Adapt engineering solutions to meet unique customer requirements while maintaining standardized solutions whenever applicable.
- Ensure designs are completed according to project requirements, quality standards, and established deadlines.
Technical Design Review and Approval
- Review and approve complex mechanical designs and engineering calculations.
- Validate the selection and sizing of:
- Servo motors and motion systems
- Power transmission systems
- Linear motion systems and guides
- Pneumatic systems
- Hydraulic systems
- Ensure engineering solutions meet functional, safety, performance, and manufacturability requirements.
Structural Analysis and Engineering Calculations
- Supervise the proper application of mechanics of materials and structural analysis principles.
- Review structural calculations to validate the feasibility, safety, and performance of mechanical equipment.
- Ensure engineering calculations and technical documentation meet company and project requirements.
Talent Development
- Lead continuous technical development and training programs for the mechanical design team.
- Develop team capabilities in areas such as:
- Pneumatic and hydraulic systems
- Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Material selection
- Mechanical design and machine development
- Engineering calculations and analysis
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Project Managers, Production, Purchasing, and other engineering departments to ensure proper project execution.
- Support the integration and validation of the Bill of Materials (BOM).
- Resolve technical discrepancies and design-related issues identified during manufacturing and assembly.
- Provide technical support to manufacturing teams when required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field.
- 7+ years of proven experience leading mechanical design teams, preferably in a custom manufacturing, ETO, or MTO environment.
- Advanced/Bilingual English proficiency is required, with the ability to lead technical meetings and manage corporate and engineering documentation in English.
- Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
- Proven experience in automated machinery and industrial equipment design.

Strong technical knowledge and hands-on experience in:
- Pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
- Mechanics of materials and structural calculations.
- Servo motor selection and sizing.
- Linear motion systems and guides.
