We are looking for a Chief Backend Engineer to take charge of backend development for our Internal Developer Platform (IDP) built on top of Backstage. This position is focused on delivering resilient services, efficient developer experiences, and seamless platform integrations.
Responsibilities

Oversee the design and delivery of Backstage backend plugins and services that drive essential platform features

Assume full responsibility for backend architecture covering the catalog, scaffolder, workflows, and APIs, with an emphasis on scalability and reliability

Build connections between platform tools such as Git, CI/CD systems, Kubernetes, and Argo Workflows to enhance operational efficiency

Plan and implement developer workflows along with automated pipelines designed to increase engineering output

Develop RBAC frameworks, authentication mechanisms, and service-to-service security controls to protect platform data and resources

Lead the ongoing design and enhancement of a scalable microservices-based architecture

Provide mentorship to team members and promote the adoption of sound engineering standards across the organization
Requirements

At least 7 years of relevant hands-on experience

A minimum of 2 years spent directing and managing development teams

Strong foundation in Node.js/TypeScript backend engineering practices

Practical experience with Backstage, including backend plugin development and API construction

Demonstrated ability to build APIs and microservices that support platforms at scale

Familiarity with Kubernetes and containerized infrastructure

Experience utilizing Argo Workflows or similar tools for workflow orchestration

Excellent English communication skills (B2 level or higher)

Experience applying CI/CD methodologies to support automated build, testing, and deployment cycles

Familiarity with GitHub Actions for simplifying automation across workflows and pipelines

Knowledge of platform engineering fundamentals to support building scalable internal developer tools

Awareness of authentication and authorization frameworks, such as OAuth and SSO

Hands-on exposure to PostgreSQL or comparable database technologies for managing data storage
