Job Summary:
We're hiring an Software Development Engineering in Test (SDET) to embed with our Platform team. Platform builds the shared services every Neumo application consumes: reporting, payments, search, authentication, messaging, file handling, and more. Our guiding principle is build once, use everywhere - and that means quality has to scale the same way.
This is not a QA-at-the-end role. You'll be in the room when we design services, shaping what 'done' means before a line of code is written. You'll execute against an established QA strategy and set of frameworks, with QA leadership provided by a senior team member who has deep context on how everything fits together. Your focus is on building and running great tests - across unit, integration, contract, and end-to-end layers. Because Platform services are consumed by many products simultaneously, a defect here is a defect everywhere. You'll own quality as a first-class concern, not an afterthought.
Duties and Responsibilities:
-
Design, build, and maintain automated test frameworks across unit, integration, contract, and end-to-end layers for Node.js shared services.
-
Participate in service design and API reviews from day one, contributing a quality-engineering perspective before implementation begins.
-
Build and maintain CI/CD test pipelines that give the team fast, reliable feedback on every commit.
-
Own test coverage for multi-tenant scenarios: tenant isolation, data separation, per-tenant configuration, and cross-tenant security boundaries.
Write and maintain automated tests against AWS-native infrastructure - Lambda, EventBridge, SQS/SNS, API Gateway - - including event-driven and async patterns.
-
Define and enforce API contract testing so downstream product teams can integrate with confidence.
-
Instrument test runs for observability: flakiness tracking, coverage trends, and test health dashboards.
Monitor and track quality metrics - test coverage trends, defect escape rates, flakiness - - and surface insights to the team regularly.
-
Validate rollback and recovery behavior: ensure services degrade gracefully and recover correctly under failure conditions.
-
Apply privacy and data protection considerations in test design: avoid using real PII in test data, validate data handling on sensitive paths, and flag compliance gaps.
-
Identify and drive resolution of systemic quality gaps; bring data, not just opinions.
-
Use AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor) as part of your daily workflow, and apply the same rigor to reviewing AI-generated test code as any other code.
Partner with back-end engineers to raise the quality bar across the team - - pairing, code reviews, and shared ownership of what we ship.
Education and Experience:
-
4+ years of SDET or quality engineering experience working on production back-end systems.
-
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Experience testing microservices and event-driven systems - - you know how to test async flows, not just synchronous request/response.
-
Solid experience with CI/CD pipelines and integrating test suites into them (GitHub Actions, CircleCI, or similar).
-
Experience testing against cloud infrastructure, ideally AWS.
-
Experience testing multi-tenant SaaS platforms, especially around isolation and security boundaries.
-
Hands-on experience with AWS serverless specifically: testing Lambda functions, EventBridge rules, and SQS/SNS workflows.
-
Experience with performance and load testing frameworks (k6, Artillery, or similar).
-
Experience testing payments integrations or familiarity with PCI compliance requirements.
-
Experience with infrastructure-as-code and testing infrastructure changes (SAM, CloudFormation, or similar).
-
Experience working with AI-assisted development tools in a production codebase.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
-
Strong understanding of relational databases (we use PostgreSQL) and how to test data integrity and migrations.
-
Excellent written and verbal communication. Much of our team is distributed, so clear async communication matters.
-
Highly motivated, self-guiding, and a constant learner who still loves contributing to team design and discussion.
-
Solid experience writing tests in JavaScript or TypeScript, with frameworks like Jest, Mocha, Playwright, or Selenium; familiarity with the Page Object Model (POM) pattern is a plus.
-
Hands-on experience with API testing and contract testing (Pact or equivalent).
Work Environment:
-
Office setting with a moderate noise level.
-
The employee will work at an individual workstation, using a telephone and computer.
Physical Demands:
-
Must be able to remain seated for extended periods.
-
Regular use of a computer and other office machinery, such as printers and copy machines.
-
Occasional movement around the office.
-
Frequent communication via telephone.
