Position Overview
Young Musicians Unite is seeking a highly creative, detail-oriented Graphic Designer to join our team as a remote independent contractor based in Latin America.
The Graphic Designer will create high-quality print and digital marketing materials that elevate YMU's visibility, engage donors and supporters, inspire students and families, and promote events, fundraising campaigns, educational programs, and organizational initiatives.
The ideal candidate has exceptional design skills, understands both digital and print production, embraces AI-powered creative tools, and is comfortable collaborating remotely with a fast-paced U.S.-based team.
This is a remote contractor position requiring approximately 6–8 hours of availability per day, Monday through Friday. Contractors must have their own reliable internet connection and the technology necessary to perform the role effectively.
Key Responsibilites
Brand & Marketing Design
- Design compelling marketing materials that strengthen and maintain the YMU brand.
- Create a wide variety of print and digital assets, including:
- Event flyers
- Posters
- Brochures
- Annual reports
- Impact reports
- Booklets and magazines
- Signage and banners
- Invitations
- Presentation decks
- Merchandise designs, including t-shirts, hats, and promotional items
- Social media graphics
- Email graphics
- Website graphics
- Digital advertisements
- Ensure all creative work aligns with YMU's brand standards and visual identity.
- Maintain consistency across campaigns, programs, events, and organizational communications.
Print Production
- Prepare professional, print-ready files for commercial production.
- Create files for large-format printing, signage, promotional products, apparel, publications, and other physical materials.
- Coordinate specifications and files for print vendors as needed.
- Ensure accuracy in bleeds, trim, color profiles, resolution, file packaging, and other production requirements.
- Review proofs and make necessary adjustments before production.
Digital Design
- Create and optimize designs for websites, email campaigns, social media, and digital advertising platforms.
- Resize and adapt creative assets for multiple platforms and formats.
- Design engaging visual content supporting fundraising, events, sponsorships, educational programs, and community engagement.
- Maintain consistency across digital channels while adapting designs to each platform's requirements.
Creative Collaboration
- Partner remotely with YMU's Marketing team to develop creative concepts and campaign visuals.
- Collaborate with internal departments to translate ideas and information into impactful visual communications.
- Participate in virtual meetings, creative reviews, and project-planning sessions.
- Respond to feedback and complete revisions in a timely manner.
- Maintain organized design files, templates, and digital asset libraries.
- Communicate proactively regarding deadlines, project status, questions, and potential delays.
AI & Creative Innovation
- Leverage AI-powered creative tools to improve design workflows, generate concepts, edit images, create mockups, and increase productivity.
- Explore new ways to integrate AI into YMU's creative processes.
- Stay current on emerging design trends, AI technologies, and creative best practices.
- Use AI responsibly while maintaining originality, brand consistency, and high-quality design standards.
QualificationsRequired
- Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 3+ years of professional graphic design experience.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating excellence across both print and digital design.
- Advanced proficiency with:
- Adobe Illustrator
- Adobe Photoshop
- Adobe InDesign
- Canva
- Experience designing for both commercial print production and digital platforms.
- Strong understanding of typography, layout, color theory, branding, and visual storytelling.
- Experience preparing production-ready files for printers.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to receive feedback, make revisions efficiently, and collaborate effectively with a remote team.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote environment.
Preferred
- Experience using AI-powered creative tools such as Adobe Firefly, ChatGPT, Claude, Midjourney, Canva AI, Codex, or similar technologies.
- Experience with Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, CapCut, or other video-editing software.
- Motion graphics or animation experience.
- Photography and photo-editing skills.
- Video-editing experience.
- Experience designing for nonprofit organizations, education, arts organizations, or other mission-driven brands.
- Previous experience working remotely with U.S.-based organizations or international teams.
Software Proficiency
Candidates should be comfortable using or learning:
- Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign
- Canva
- Google Workspace
- Asana
- Zoom and other virtual collaboration tools
- AI-powered creative tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Adobe Firefly, Canva AI, Codex, or similar platforms
Remote Work & Technology Requirements
Because this is a fully remote contractor position, candidates are responsible for maintaining the equipment, technology, and internet access necessary to perform their work.
Contractors must have:
- A reliable, high-speed internet connection suitable for video meetings, uploading and downloading large design files, and cloud-based collaboration.
- A reliable laptop or desktop computer capable of running professional graphic design software.
- A functional keyboard and mouse.
- A functional webcam and microphone for Zoom meetings and other virtual meetings.
- The ability to access Google Workspace, Asana, Zoom, Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, and other required platforms.
- A professional and reliable remote workspace suitable for focused work and virtual meetings.
- The ability to securely store and manage YMU files, information, and creative assets.
Schedule & Availability
- Monday through Friday
- Approximately 6–8 working hours per day
- Approximately 30–40 hours per week, depending on organizational and project needs
- Must be available for scheduled virtual meetings and collaboration with the YMU team during mutually established working hours.
- Candidates must be able to communicate consistently and respond to work-related messages during their agreed-upon schedule.
Contractor Compensation
- $15–$20 USD per hour, based on experience, portfolio, skill level, and qualifications.
- This position is structured as an independent contractor engagement, not a U.S. employee position.
- Contractors are responsible for their own taxes, insurance, equipment, internet service, and other obligations applicable in their country of residence.
- Payment details and invoicing requirements will be outlined in the independent contractor agreement.

Work Location

There is no requirement to relocate to Miami or work from YMU's physical office. Candidates must have the technology, internet connectivity, and availability necessary to collaborate effectively with our Miami-based team.
