The Staff Plating Engineer is responsible for leading electroplating and surface finishing operations with emphasis on equipment selection, process optimization, wastewater treatment systems, and cost reduction initiatives. This role requires deep technical expertise in electrochemical processes, environmental compliance, and manufacturing efficiency improvements.
Job Requirements
Equipment Selection & Engineering
- Evaluate, specify, and select electroplating equipment including rectifiers, filtration systems, plating tanks, and automation components
- Conduct feasibility studies for new plating technologies and equipment upgrades
- Collaborate with vendors to define technical specifications and performance requirements
- Lead equipment installation, commissioning, and validation activities
- Develop equipment maintenance programs and troubleshooting procedures
Process Optimization
- Design and optimize electroplating processes for improved quality, efficiency, and throughput
- Conduct statistical process control (SPC) analysis and design of experiments (DOE) to identify process improvements
- Develop and maintain process documentation, work instructions, and control plans
- Implement advanced process control strategies and monitoring systems
- Troubleshoot complex plating defects and implement corrective actions
What your background should look like
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related technical field
- 8+ years of experience in electroplating or surface finishing operations
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
- Advanced degree (MS/PhD) in relevant field is a plus
Technical Skills
- Deep understanding of electrochemical principles and plating chemistry
- Experience with wastewater treatment technologies (chemical precipitation, ion exchange, membrane processes)
- Proficiency in process simulation software and statistical analysis tools
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and permit requirements
Experience with automated plating systems and process control
