Si vas para R&D de arquitectónico (COMEX), es un buen lugar, tiene áreas verdes, buena infraestructura. Si fuera solo eso, tendría todo para ser el lugar perfecto para laborar.
Lo malo: te contrata una filial de PPG, por lo que no se tienen las mismas prestaciones que tienen las personas de PPG de planta, corporativo o automotriz. No hay fondo de ahorro, no hay utilidades, solo hay un bono anual, y este depende de muchas cosas. El mayor problema, es la gente. Los líderes y directores son de la vieja escuela, es decir se hicieron en COMEX. Están acostumbrados a hacer cosas fuera de los lineamientos de PPG global. Dicho esto, la filosofía y visión de PPG global está muy lejos de llegar aquí. Gran parte del personal operativo también se formó en comex, por lo que la gente está muy amañada, hay mucho favoritismo y amiguismo con privilegios. No se mide igual a todos.

Desventajasno hay plan de carrera. Las promociones son por dedazo, o al exigirlo por mucho tiempo de antigüedad, y no por méritos.
Ambiente de trabajo dinámico con crecimiento fluctuante
1.- Cotidianamente se realizan pruebas distintas al producto terminado, promoviendo la mejora continua día a día.
2.- Aprendí a realizar pruebas de control húmedo, como medir pH, sólidos totales, viscosidad y densidad, simulaciones del sustrato de un vehículo en autopista como lo son las pruebas de control mecánico, y la aplicación del producto terminado para la valoración del mismo.
3,.las peticiones emitidas por personal son atendidas de forma inmediata por los supervisores y encargados del área en cuestión.
4,. Son personas constantemente en preparación dispuestas para apoyar en casos requeridos.
5.-El transporte, debido a que muchos colegas son de comunidades foráneas.
6.-Se puede tener acceso directamente a los jefes, la forma de trabajar es autónoma, el ambiente de trabajo es muy alegre, el área del comedor muy buena.
Ningún día es igual siempre hay un reto nuevo que vencer, los clientes de PPG son muy diversos lo que hace a la compañía muy completa pues debe de manejar todas las culturas de los clientes más la propia, la dirección te deja trabajar y predica con el ejemplo, la parte más difícil del trabajo es estar actualizado pues los clientes cambias de modelos, productos o procesos que por ende PPG debe adoptarlos y aprenderlos, así como convertirse en un experto al momento de buscar soluciones a problemas de calidad o recomendaciones de mejora. Lo que más me gusto fue la gente, siempre está dispuesta ayudarte y tan multidisciplinaria que siempre encuentras a la persona ideal para hacer una consulta o pedir soporte.

Los dias de trabajo eran excelentes, aqui aprendi diferentes procesos de manufactura en diferentes companias.
La direccion solo recibia los reportes diarios y las mejoras propuestas hechas por los empleados.

lo mas dificil de este trabajo fue el no tener las herramientas de trabajo para poder desempenar mi trabajo 100% y no poder retroalimentar a las companias que yo tenia bajo mi responsabilidad debido a la falta de herramientas que no tenia.

En un día típico de trabajo, se verificaban pendientes, pagos, cobros, llamadas y reportes, a las plantas nacionales o a las de Estados Unidos, dependiendo el caso.
Se corroboraba que hubiera suficientes insumos para trabajar, es decir que hubiera materia prima en el almacén para los futuros días, si había alguna eventualidad se hacía un pedido extra.
Se proyectaba lo que se ocuparía en las siguientes semanas en cuanto a materia prima y materiales de trabajo.
Se enviaban reportes y facturas diarias de los que salía de almacén. En general se llevaba todo lo concerniente a la administración de operaciones.
En general me gustaba mucho ese trabajo, había buen ambiente laboral y tanto mis compañeros como yo estábamos comprometidos con nuestras labores.
Por la naturaleza de mi trabajo, el día era muy intenso. Si estaba en la planta de la empresa, el día era más amable. Aprendí muchas cosas de cultura empresarial, temas técnicos, temas de Calidad, sobre cultura laboral, convivencia amable con la Dirección General y con mis jefes de entonces. La parte más difícil del trabajo fueron las relaciones con uno de los clientes, y al mismo tiempo, con mi jefe del momento. Toda la época anterior fué excelente.

PPG me dio libertad para crear un modelo de planeación del presupuesto que permitio dar el calculo en 97% de Forecast Accuracy basado en modelo/color por cada una de las plantas de los clientes donde se tiene negocio, logrando asi cerrar la barrera que se tuvo por muchos años para tener un presupuesto por "Layer" como se le conoce en la industria automotriz, los layers son las diferentes capas que conforman el proceso de pintura en un auto ensamblado de origen.

Un día típico consistía en hacerse cargo de los colores de pintura que tuvieran que mandarse al cliente en el transcurso de esa semana.
Aprendí sobre la teoría del color, a medir viscosidad, a utilizar algunos software de color.
Mis colegas me ayudaban enseñándome todo aquello que desconocía o en lo que tenía dudas.
La parte mas difícil del trabajo era cuando en almacén no tenían en existencia los materiales para trabajar.
Lo que mas me gusto es que en esa empresa era un aprender constante.

El salario puede ser un factor ya que otras induatrias y negocios pagan mejor por laborar y hacer practicamente lo mismo.
Poner mas atencion en sus negocios y clientes, ya que ellos son la voz de que todo esta vien o esta mal.

With such a huge global presence at first glance PPG seems like an opportunity to advance a career, but within a few months you'll realize you've been indexed. Unless you're buddies with the right people, you're not going anywhere no matter how good you are. Furthermore, they hire outside more than inside for management and the higher pay positions: usually someone the management knew or a place they worked. I have a college degree, many years of customer and sales experience and still couldn't advance by working diligent and asking for the advancement. The company pays so little that it's hard for even a store manager (also over worked at 12 hr days) to survive on the salary. The equipment and stores are so dated and needing repair that you'll need to work around it because the management is reluctant to replace or repair it. Stores are run with as minimal employees as humanly possible (1-3 per store average) which means you will be swamped and overworked making the little pay not worth it: especially when you are worried about covering your monthly basic bills. If someone calls in, you're in for a rough day. Despite being constantly praised for good work I was paid .24 cents for my one and only raise in a year ($12.24/hr). Advancement to make higher pay is also kept slow. You'll find you can take a test to make a .50 cent raise, but you can't take the next test (.50 cents) for 6 months. If you don't pass the test, you can't take it again. You'll be asked/demanded to cover s

Initially, learned a lot about different apps/systems.
Typical day of work for the starting analyst involves learning a plethora of apps/systems/environments, and taking calls - anywhere from 10-35 calls a day (varies due to season & # of analysts working on the shift).
After becoming eligible - will be able to work off-shifts/overnight shifts (4-12am, 6-2am, 11:30pm-7am)
Service desk is global and 24x7x365. On off-shifts you'll have customers from Australia and China.
After your first raise, you'll receive a SME (Subject Matter Expert) role. These vary, and there are a number of them. But there are a handful of them that are essentially worthless - they don't carry any additional knowledge and responsibility. The availability of the GOOD SME roles is based on luck - when you get your raise, and what SME group needs an additional analyst at that time (Max is 4). Down the line, you'll eventually receive additional SME roles (up to 2 for a total of 3).
After 18 months of employment you're eligible for a tier 3 job, but good luck getting one if it's available or if the tier 3 teams don't play favorites.
It's a fast-paced, competitive environment. If you're not doing well enough by your second milestone (basically a review of your progress), you will most likely be fired, because you can be very easily replaced. Since the position moved from Contractors to Employees, job security is a thing of the past.

I have only worked on the Architectural Coatings side of the company and have held various positions within that market. This is not a review of the company as a whole, merely the AC side.
It was a positive experience in regards to the people I've worked with, as most are genuine and hard working which compliments the similarly characterizable customer base.
Management in general seems to be interchangeable leading to a despondence amongst the average workers. Most, if not all, coworkers that I interacted with above the hourly level are self-taught with all the resilience and lack of refinement that you would expect from years of pervading vague management.
There is opportunity for advancement within the company, but be prepared to be left to fend for yourself if you want training for your newly acquired position. The pay scale for a promotion is based on a minuscule percentage of what you made at your previous position within the company, so you better bargain well for your money from the beginning.
I have worked in areas of management and can confidently say that by far the most off-putting characteristic of the company is being heavy handed in micro management but hazy on education. There is a culture of abundant paperwork and unexplained expectations. A common response when asking for assistance in understanding proper procedure is to be told to ask someone else in your same position, or worse being pointed to their dizzyingly clunky "store assistance" webs

Your typical day of work will probably start with 5am to 1pm just learning whatever they can teach you with the zero amount of work they have there. I worked with some decent people and I am going to miss them, but most other older folks will try to get you in trouble and give you false information. They don't like new people there and it seems it is all a game how they treat you.
In training they will tell you all kinds of misinformation about "floating holidays" and days off then when you use them you will receive a write up for doing so. It is sort of a learn as you go process where everything you do will probably be wrong. Even following managers instructions will lead you to getting in some sort of trouble. To break this down a little more, the trainers are not bad. They are decent folks and I truly believe they are the only ones that want you to succeed here but they do not teach you about policy. You learn a great deal about equipment and a lot of stuff that you won't even use unless you are specially trained to do so.
I had hopes of growing with this company, I really put all my eggs in one basket and chose to put the work in and dedicate myself and folks this just is not it. The management has no idea what they are doing. They have 5 or 6 people standing around doing nothing while one person who has been there 20 years is working on the window. I really don't understand how they aren't going under right now. If you do take the job here, you cannot miss any days.

This is for Cleveland Ohio plant, I did get laid off, and this is only the bad part LOL it was my fault, I broke the rules. So follow the rules and you should be okay, that pays pretty good. It's not the best for working with chemicals that gives you cancer, or working in the cold or rain or heat, or not having a correct tools.. but it's still pretty easy job , to me it was still kind of fun. I might go back. Right now they're doing 12 hours, so roughly 4 days 1 week and 3 days the following, you work 7 days in 2 weeks, but their paychecks are wonky. Nothing is together everything is separate. It could be a little overwhelming looking at your paycheck. But then when you do get bonuses it all adds up so if they take more taxes, so don't know how they are doing the paychecks. But at all works out some way, benefits are pretty good, they match 6% with 401k and we get medical and then a few other things so not bad. When they tell you you get 3 weeks vacation, that's a lie. Because they don't want to change anything in the system, so those three weeks are scheduled for 8 hour shifts when you are scheduled 12 hours. So technically you get 2 weeks. Plus mandatory over time, so you almost barely have a life, just a regular 12-hour shifts we're okay but adding to 8 hours extra and the whole summer almost 2 years with 12 hours. About 6 months with the extra mandatory. Management could be a little better. Some people could be toxic. But still pretty good place it's how you want to make

Typical day involves sampling coated flat glass product, adjusting machine to keep coating within quality specs, troubleshooting problems and fixing same as they may occur, as well as aiding Maintenance in problem identification. Daily checklist of machine temps., flows.and potential problems done everyday, also. Weekends are devoted to opening up coating machine to do weekly repairs/replacement of parts in this high maintenance machine. Also assisting machine operator, and performing the Operator job in his absence is required, as well as building of machine components as necessary.
I have learned to do all tasks required for this position, and co-workers and management have told me that I do quality work.
Management is striving to increase production and quality, but are stuck in a period of high experienced employee loss (retirements, etc.). Unfortunately, this shifts a higher degree of stress/workload to remaining knowledgeable employees remaining until newer employees can be brought up to speed. Also, employee input does not seem to be given the consideration this very specialized process/machine would seem to warrant.

I had worked in PPG Aerospace, Mississauga ,ON,Canada as a seal cap producer from 2009 til 2012.The agency Manpower had placed me there. It was a good work environment to be in and I enjoyed my initial year.There were a few genuinely good few people in the plant. The work environment started getting worse when the new quality manager stepped into the plant and the plant supervisor who was a good man lost control of the proceedings. The quality manager was a highly controlling man ,cruel and insensitive all put together. The plant soon began to be run on the whims of the moment of this man. While this guy was strong in technical aspects, the disadvantage was that he was a misfit in dealing with people. Shortly afterwards,I was let go on the orders of the quality manager for doing a procedure in the manner in which the plant supervisor had told me. I had been in the plant 2yrs and 7months.In between my stay in PPG,Aerospace the Plant Manager had abused his authority to hire 2 people into the plant who were much junior to me and to many others working there just because they were his favorites. The plant depends heavily on its seal caps business for its survival. While I can understand why there is no hiring, since it is the single most expenditure on a company's budget,I was disappointed at the lack of transparency and favoritism when there were the odd few hirings. This is very fast place, the line moves 12 feet per minute and loaded with heavy and hot car parts. You work at the line which is about 6 feet from the oven.I am very lucky to drive forklift but I still feel the heat and sweat all the day. You have to drink liquid like a fish and you get 3 breaks, two 10 minutes paid and 30 minutes lunch un paid. The break is not enough for me and this company needs to hire more people. People quit because the pay is not enough for this job. The temps get $15 an hour but many people quit after a day or two, and some after few hours.
The management claiming that the company is not making enough money. In my opinion that is very far from the fact. I counted more than $45.000 in 15 minutes but not all parts the same. If this company wants to keep good people it is very simple and all it takes just few extra dollars, longer breaks and more fans. This is my advise for the best of this company.
In my case I do not care about this job anymore. I am going to find other job because I cannot make it with this pay. I make $14.50 but I am full time not temp. Can you believe it? This means I make 50c less than the temp. This is first time I ever made less than the temp while I am full time + I drive forklift. The insurance cost is over the top. A yearly raise is given, but it barely and in most cases doesn't cover the insurance increase for that year. The attendance policy is ridiculous. One second late coming to work or from lunch and it's a half point. (7 points in a year is termination) and the time clocks are not the same always so you can be late and not know it. Some people punch in out and the time and the time sheet says your late even tho you were not, then you are pointed. ( and you must change at work into your uniform before punching in. So more personal time lost and another risk of being a second late. You work with crazy amounts of chemicals. Their is 2 tier pay system. The tier A people that came before 2007 makes average 8.00 more per hour than you. Example. A guy tier A made more per hour 15 years ago than you will today and that doesn't include the insurance cost increases. TierA in rewarded with better pay because of the chemical we are exposed to, so tier B which you will be, life means less to the company than tier A. The company tell you that you mean nothing and there's the door. They do very little for morale. On a plus side. The jobs are all easy-thinking that may be the only plus in this. The company seems to be excited and cannot wait to write a person up. There is a union. They take around 2.5 hours of your pay per month. As an apprentice my first priority was to become a master refinisher with automotive, commercial, and aircraft technology. Based at a Training Facility I assumed a role as a head instructor for teaching new and improved ways of maximizing waterborne and solvent paint techniques and technology. I had to continuously research company products inside and outside of the refinish devision and have a well rounded understanding of each. I accompanied different Territory Managers on product installs, technical calls, sales calls, and training weekly. I attended meetings to find solutions to refinish problems. I completed many sales tactic and leadership classes provided by the company with confident results.
I learned that experience isn't measured by the length of time gained but rather the willingness to continuously improve the first experience taught.
Management was supportive and motivational.
Co-workers were encouraging and challenging.
The most difficult part of the job was breaking the age and gender gap between myself and students and co-workers. With determination and hard work I gained the respect of students and co-workers.
The most enjoyable part of the job was helping professional refinishers improve their technique with lasting results.
